General Information

Girls in Years 7 to 13 may board at the College. The Boarding establishment, known to generations of girls as "The House", is on the main school campus and is therefore an integral part of the College.

There are two boarding residences, the historic Bishopscourt and the newer Katharine Buchan House built in the 1960's. These two residences accommodate up to 110 girls with the senior boarders in Bishopscourt and the junior boarders in Katharine Buchan House.

The Junior Boarding House has recently undergone extensive renovation - well-appointed individual dormitory areas have been created for each girl to increase personal privacy. All the girls have their own study desks in their dormitories with computer access. The large outdoor balcony on the first floor has been upgraded to enhance recreational facilities. The junior boarders also have a sitting-room with a suite of computers on the first floor as well as the Recreation Room on the ground floor for socialising and weekend activities.

Other facilities include Year level sitting-rooms in Bishopscourt, and single study bedrooms for Year 13 students. There are a number of computers in both boarding residences for the girls to use.

The majority of boarders come from Otago and Southland. There are also girls boarding from other parts of New Zealand and from overseas.

Weekly boarding (five days residence) is available as well as full boarding, with short-term stays also possible for day students.

Boarders all dine together in the traditional paneled dining-room in Bishopscourt but on school-days they have a packed lunch which enables them to socialise with day girls and attend lunch-time activities.

Living on the school campus allows the boarders to use many of the school facilities, and they also have good access within the boarding residences to Internet and e-mail. Laptops are permitted.

Parents are welcome visitors, and boarders are able to obtain leave for a wide variety of purposes with the number and range increasing with seniority.

Procedures for supervision are well established and outings to films, plays and concerts are organised regularly for the boarders by House staff.

When in residence, boarders attend Church on Sundays at Highgate Presbyterian Church or at a Church of their denomination.

Two women doctors from the neighbouring Roslyn Health Centre assist the House staff with health matters.

The Director of Boarding, Mrs Richelle Manson, is a Registered Nurse. She is assisted by a Deputy Director of Boarding, Matrons and House Tutors in the pastoral care of all boarders.
